Volunteer opportunities

Want a meaningful volunteer experience?

Structured volunteer programs are a good opportunity for savvy students and professionals seeking to acquire skills and experience for a leg up in the job market. Green Wheels now has opportunities for you to gain new skills and polish old ones. You can help publish our Community Wheel Magazine, develop the webpage, or drive campaigns forward.
Community Wheel internship
This internship invites a student to help publish the Community Wheel. The internship is designed to include you in each step of producing a publication. Applicants must be proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign in order to be considered for this position. This internship includes class credit and a stipend.
Journalism
Green Wheels encourages aspiring journalists and opinionated community members to submit articles at any time for our print publication. We consider a wide range of topics on transportation policy issues and culture. Ambitious journalists should inquire about volunteer positions structured around Green Wheels campaigns. You work on your articles with a team of editors and receive editorial coaching on effective writing.
Online Journalism
Try your hand at online journalism, content management and webpage promotion, which leverages other social networks like blogs, Facebook and Twitter. This volunteer position is great for contributing writers interested in working in the growing field of online journalism and blogging.
Website Development
In the spirit of open source development, volunteers can gain experience working on the Green Wheels web page. You can apply your knowledge of Drupal CMS while also learning new skills. Green Wheels is developing an online database management system. Applicants who know HTML and PHP coding may qualify for an internship as an IT specialist.
Transportation Planning and Interpretation
As an advocacy organization we encourage the community to take an active role in how our local government decides transportation design. This position is ideal for someone interested in policy and city planning. Interns will gain applied experience through the intersection of our policy campaigns and journalism. You can help bridge the gap between government and public input. Any of the positions listed above are compatible with both volunteer and internship level commitments and responsibilities. You should let us know what your interest level is by contacting us at info@green-wheels.org or call 707.633.4488. We would love to hear from you.
