North Coast Railroad Decay

We've been talking about railbanking and trail development as a reasonable compromise to preserve the railroad corridor for rail's return when and if it becomes feasible in the future.  This video illustrates the challenges of bringing rail service back up through the Eel River Canyon, one of the most geologically unstable places on the planet.  Plus, there is good music and beautiful scenery.  Enjoy!

North Coast Railroad Coming on Wednesday

The train isn't coming, just the NCRA Board.  The meeting will take place Wednesday, 10:30am at the Supervisors Chambers in the Humboldt County Courthouse.

One notable action item on the agenda is setting the hearing date for April 15th the Draft Enivronmental Impact Report on reopening operations on the South End from Willits south.  This means the DEIR will have to be released within 6 days.

NCRA Navigates Budget Woes and CEQA Questions, Postpones Rail with Trail Guideline Discussion

With the injunction from Novato’s lawsuit lifted, the NCRA met yesterday to award contracts for bridge and track repair on the south end of the line between Cloverdale and Lombard, but as with most NCRA meetings, the public comments and subtexts served to illuminate the continuing troubled story for this railroad.
