Expanding bus service

Purple text indicates changed stop times for this northbound schedule; red, new stop times. Southbound looks similar.

Good news!  Redwood Transit System and Eureka Transit Service have both expanded their service.

Beginning Monday, July 14, RTS will offer 4 additional trips each weekday.  Several existing trips have been extended and/or include changed stop times.  See Updated schedules here.

Since the beginning of the month, ETS has been running an additional route (Purple) on Saturdays.  The Rainbow Route has been changed.  Updated schedules here.

Note that if you use Google Transit, the schedule changes have not taken effect there yet.  A note on the RTS and ETS webpages notes this, and will be removed when Google Transit trip planner information is current.

As always, you can download the up-to-date schedules as text files for your iPod, PDA, mobile phone, or BrailleNote device at these sites.  You can also purchase passes online using your credit card.

It sure is great to see service expanded right when high gas prices mean people need transit most to get to jobs, healthcare, and education, and to do errands and social trips!  RTS provides about one-half million trips a year for people, a number which is bound to be increasing.  If you have comments on these schedule updates or the way information is displayed on transit websites for Humboldt, please post them to the open customer-service board for Humboldt Transit.  I'll be listening, and so will others.

The several transit service expansions this year have been at least partially-enabled by increased fare revenue from the Jack Pass, HSU's universal bus pass program which Green Wheels created and advocated for.  Please support Green Wheels so we can continue to create strategic programs for transportation balance and sustainable travel options for all.

Update: Carol posted some comments on the schedule updates at Humboldt Transit Authority's open customer-service forum and I respond.

Evening and Sunday service

For the last 20 years I have asked for evening and Sunday bus services and it always seems to never get publicly discussed. Why they don't offer it?

Evening and Sunday service

Gosh, for the last 20 years I have also been asking for evening and Sunday bus service (check the Casinos for Sunday service). They don't offer it because bus riders are perceived as the desperate and the poor. We need a "rich lawyers ride the bus" day as much as a "bicycle to work" day. My advice? Keep asking. And get a bunch of other people to ask, too. And organize!
